Reclaiming Your Energy: a daily practice

By lgenoway, December 17, 2009 2:37 pm

redwood-trailThis exercise has ancient roots to many cultures and practices. The version described below is one of the simplest although you will find more elaborate rituals for a variety of purposes. Practiced daily, these deceptively simple steps will help you to recharge your energy and release stressful situations. Just 5 minutes at the end of each day can help you have a more peaceful sleep and awake with renewed clarity.

1. Sit in a comfortable spot where you will not be disturbed.

2. Set an intention for this exercise. (It could be that you want clarity on a particular life issue, you might use the extra energy to create positive change, or you might simply want a nice restful sleep.)

3. Ground yourself. (What I mean by “ground” is to bring all of your awareness into this moment with focus on your immediate actions. Be completely present in your physical body from your head to your toes. Feel your feet on the ground. Have an awareness of your energy body being connected above to the sun and below to the earth with focused awareness in the heart area.)

4. Allow your memory to go back to the start of your day. As you review the day’s events, notice where you may feel a loss of energy or where you may have taken on someone else’s energy or ideas. Don’t get caught up in analyzing or judging the events. Simply notice and remain as neutral as possible.

5. With the intention of reclaiming all of your energy, breathe deeply as you review the day’s events. You may visualize, intend or feel your energy returning as you breathe it in. If you feel an emotional charge, simply allow this emotional energy to dissipate down into the center of the earth through your grounded connection. Continue to breathe – filling up your entire body. (You are becoming full of yourself in the best possible way.)

6. When you notice an event that caused you to take on someone else’s energy or beliefs, breathe out fully sending the disharmonious energy back to its source. (Don’t worry. The energy will not negatively affect the person it came from. It feels ‘yucky’ to you because it isn’t your energy.) Remember to remain neutral, sending any emotional charge into the earth as ‘compost’.

7. If you should find an event or situation coming into your awareness that did not happen that particular day, you may recall and/or release the energy, or simply ignore it and move back to the day’s events you are reviewing.

8. When you feel done with your review/reclaim/release process, acknowledge the intention set at the beginning of the exercise, and let go of the process. Affirm a grounded connection to your body. You should feel more relaxed with renewed energy for your intended goal. (If a particular event keeps pulling on your attention or you don’t feel any different, go back through the process on those isolated scenes where you may have gone too quickly.)

HEALING and INTUITION
What an amazing experience! Surrounded by the beauty of nature and connecting with so many different beautiful beings. The workshop was held in the sanctuary building, a wooded spot where guests normally come to meditate. There were 44 students from all walks of life and Francesca was able to adjust her teachings to meet the needs of the group beautifully. As her assistants, we gained valuable experience at holding sacred space and had the honor of offering healing sessions to the students between classes.

ORBS
The pictures, in the slide show above, were taken by my daughter who also attended the class. If you are interested in the phenomenon of orbs, you will find several in the interior sanctuary images. The pictures were taken on a break during class. You can see at least 3 large orbs above the main teachers’ chairs (above the stone wall) in one image, and in another one, you can see many of them – all sizes. In my picture, there is a small one (look around my left ear). I will post larger pics so that you can see them more clearly…kind of fun. Digital images of our friends in energy/spirit form.

Living Intuition

Sunday – August 2

We arrived at Omega extremely late, 11:45pm. 15 minutes before guest services closed for the night. Storms in New York City caused our flight from Minneapolis, MN to be delayed, which resulted in missing our scheduled train to Rhinecliff, NY. After arriving at Penn Station, we boarded the A Train instead of the E Train. This turned out to be the longer of the 2 routes to Penn Station. On the way, we were exposed to a variety of people from all walks of life. One young man looked like he was meditating the entire time. Another one got on for only 2 stops but was obviously in a very bad state, probably drug induced. He spit on the floor right before he got off the train.

Several of us who had been on the train before and after him noticed that no one else would sit anywhere near his seat. For the next 4 or 5 stops, several groups of people got on the train and went to sit near the seat he had been in but would always decide against it. Finally, a single woman, who was preoccupied with reading something, sat a couple of seats away from the location.

All of these people were using their intuition although they would probably not knowingly acknowledge it. They had sensed something intangible that let them know not to sit in that area. Whether it was negative energy lingering in the space or a resonance of the collective experience from those of us looking on, doesn’t really matter. It was a beautiful example of how we humans have this innate sense that assists us daily, in all areas of our life. We can cultivate it as a helpful tool, or we can deny it and miss a lot of useful information.

Language of Intuition at Omega

I will be one of Francesca McCartney’s teaching assistants during family week (August 2-7, 2009) at the Omega Institute’s Rhinebeck NY campus. Read on for workshop details. Hope to see you there!

The Language of Intuition
Creating Health, Positive Energy & Vitality

Recent research shows that intuition is a natural human sense which operates in harmony with the other five senses. Francesca McCartney teaches us to make this “sixth” sense our first sense, by providing the tools to understand its language.

During the week, we learn the principles from McCartney’s book Body of Health to explore our intuitive nature. Through intellectual dialogue, active practice with energy tools, guided meditations, hands-on experiential sessions, and personal energy sessions from the teaching assistants, we learn to create more health, positive energy, and vitality in our lives.

We discover how to: nourish our body and emotions; balance the aura and chakra systems; generate personal life-force energy for vitality; source positive energy for creating harmonious relationships; recognize intuition as the voice of inner spiritual wisdom; and create a communication link to healing guides.

$20 materials fee; include when you register. Bring a journal. The book Body of Health will be distributed at the workshop. Recommended reading: McCartney, Intuition Medicine.

Francesca McCartney, PhD, is president of Energy Medicine University and the Academy of Intuition Medicine in California. Working as an intuitive in the medical field since 1976, she teaches laypeople and health-care practitioners energetic techniques to nurture the body and spirit with an effective hands-on healing therapy. Body as Spirit

A topic that has always put me off when it comes to New Age rhetoric is the notion that earth life, being in a physical body, is somehow less desirable than being pure spirit – freed from the confines of the physical. There seems to be a message that this lower, slower earth reality is less than or inferior to the higher, brighter spiritual realm. This message is enforced with a variety of spiritual tools that are intended to help you transcend or rise above this earthly, physical existence.

There are many of us who believe that we are here for a reason. We chose to be here. By trying to deny or rise above your earthy life we could be missing a huge opportunity. Even if you take the view, as many spiritual traditions do, that we are trapped on earth in a loop of karma or patterns of behavior, then you are forgetting that before you showed up here, while you were still an “all knowing” spirit, completely free and above it all, you chose to come into a physical body. What was the reason? Maybe there is something that you can learn here that you can’t learn anywhere else.

A more holistic or integrative approach would be to allow all aspects of our being to be expressed fully, allowing our spirit to flow freely as an expression our physical body while maintaining awareness and a willingness to change ingrained thoughts and behaviors. We would be making a shift toward seeing our personal growth as a process toward evolution of our spirit and valuing the significant role of our daily lives and physical bodies in that essential growth process.

Spirituality vs. Earth Reality

I recently received a notice for a class titled Spirituality 101. This got me to thinking. How many of us see our “spiritual” life as separate from our everyday “normal” life? Do we go to church once a week, meditate or attending satsang in order to fill up a spiritual void and then move back into our daily life knowing that we touched on something higher or more expansive than we expect to be able to experience in our ordinary life?

What if we used this realization to shift how we view reality instead? Can we see ourselves moving from an awareness of earth vs. spirit into a multi-dimensional awareness where physical reality is an extension of spirit? How would this change our priorities? Might we begin to see every experience, every action and every thought as an opportunity for development? We could begin to see beyond societal and cultural boundaries to take responsibility for our lives, and answer the invitation to bring all of our spiritual awareness into harmony with our daily, physical lives.

Intention

By lgenoway, July 16, 2009 4:04 pm

My intention is to facilitate the continued expansion of awareness and integration of consciousness within a perspective of compassion. I will be sharing thoughts, insights and info that might be of interest and of use to individuals in pursuit of a more meaningful, healthful and joyful life.
